I left Hiro the WRX at home today.

Kinja'd!!!

Trying to figure out why I haven’t done this earlier. Given that I’m prone to going home for lunch, that’s 22 miles a day when I live 5.5 miles away.

Good for you. I miss commuting by bike.

I’ve been thinking about starting for a long, long time, and finally said “Fehk it, lets ride!”

It helps that my town and area has been pouring massive amounts of money into developing biking attractions. A beautiful session and flow bike park, multiple single track trail networks and a 32 mile greenway system to connect the major towns. Now they’re beginning to work on infrastructure to feed into the big trail systems, which will hopefully reach my residential area soon.

It is rather nice to live in an area of forward thinking in this rather bass-ackwards state.

Arkansas is a funny state. In some ways, they are on the cutting edge. In others, they are waaaaaay behind.

Indeed. For all its inherent fucked-up-ness, I am happy I stayed here. I had the opportunity to move to Colorado by way of Nashville after I finished school. 3 years ago it felt like the NWA was on the verge of change, and change it has done. I’m happy to be a part of that change, however small my influence may be.

I commuted by bike today too! On a very similar bike to yours. I have a Trek 7.5FX. My ride is about 7.5 miles each way. Plus I’ve been adding a mile or two trying to hit up the gym on my way home. Looks like you’ve got a pretty sweet commuting set up already.

You must be my doppleganger. After a few years in Arkansas, we too had an opportunity in Colorado. We passed it up for a chance to be a bit closer to family.

What part of AR, if you don’t mind?

Nice! Well done!

Thanks. I’ve had the bike for a few years, and about half that time ago I kitted it up some more with the intent to commute, but mostly its just stayed in the garage. There’s a section of road that I’m not thrilled with riding on (2 lane state highway, no shoulder, ditches) but it is short leg of my ride, so I decided that I wasn’t going to wait for the city/county to put a trail out that way. And, to be honest, every car on that stretch was very courteous. Some of the in-town surface streets, well, that’s a different story.

That’s actually something I love telling people about: courteous cars. There are, of course, some assholes. But for the most part people driving cars are very nice. I think part of it is living here in California commuters are used to bicyclists.

Central and. South. I suspect you are in the Fayettville area.

Indeed. North of there, but everyone lumps us into Fayettnam.
